Essay: Future role of computers in education

Sorce: http://www.dilbert.com/
Nowadays, computers have become an essential component of our society. We use them for any kind of activity, like counting and reporting in our jobs, controlling our industries, etc. There is little doubt than also education will deeply change because of computers. We must ask ourselves how computerization will change our schools. Experts coincide that the most important changes will be done in three areas: the classroom, the teachers and the learning process.
Firstly, computers will render the classroom unnecessary. Why should we gather physically in the same place when we can study better in our house? Internet allow us to avoid in-person courses, and therefore we can concentrate better in the desired subject. Classrooms will become old-fashined and out-dated.

On the other hand, teachers will still be absolutely necessary. The role of the teachers is not only to give information and correct mistakes. They must motivate the student, and also adapt the subject to the student's capabilities. Computers can help them in this aspect, but they can not replace the teachers.

Computers will also affect deeply to the learning process, bringing mainly two different aspects: flexibility and communication. We will be able to decide when, where and how we are going to study, connecting to the educative nerwork through our home computer or through a school computer. We will be able to communicate with different students from any part of the world, receiving richer experiences and connecting with people with our needs.
The educative community is therefore waiting for important and exciting changes thanks to the development of computers. Nobody can really tell when this changes are going to take place, but surely things will never be the same as they are now. Computers will bring us a new era in education, and hopefully help us to learn things faster and better.
